Verity Inc. has announced that Kaiser Permanente, a nonprofit health plan, will use Verity K2 Enterprise (K2E) as the search and retrieval technology on its new integrated Web site, designed to serve its members and healthcare professionals as well as the general public. The new site is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2003. The impetus for this overhaul of the organization's online capabilities is a desire to provide a higher and more satisfying level of service while realizing operational efficiencies. Kaiser Permanente serves 8.4 million members in nine states and the District of Columbia. It has 29 medical centers, 423 medical offices, 130,000 employees, and 11,000 physicians. The brokered architecture of Verity K2E will provide Kaiser Permanente's new integrated Web site with fault-tolerance and scalable search capability to ensure that users can find information. This architecture is also J2EE-compliant, so it meets the organization's IT standards.
