EndNote X allows users to manage PDFs--drag and drop a PDF file onto an EndNote record--EndNote stores the file with the EndNote references, and creates a link automatically. Existing PDF links in an EndNote library can be converted to the new PDF management system in one step. And the new compressed library option creates a single-file backup for transport of an EndNote library between computers. EndNote X provides users with more flexibility in how they work with their references. Users can view up to eight fields in the reference list display, and click-sort column heads to locate records. PDF links are identified with a new PDF icon. The reference edit window now includes a new option to "show and hide empty fields" to reduce scrolling through reference detail. New reference types are also available, including: Grant, Ancient Text, Dictionary, and Encyclopedia. Users can search EndNote libraries using the "begins with" or "ends with" options for fields and words. And EndNote X offers more ways to connect EndNote with bibliographic databases and publishing styles--800+ connections to online sources, 540+ import filters, and over 2,300 journal styles. EndNote X is designed for Windows 2000 and XP. The list price of EndNote X is $299.95. Students in North America can purchase EndNote X for $109.95 with a valid student I.D. EndNote X is now available from Thomson ResearchSoft, college and university bookstores, and authorized resellers worldwide. EndNote X for Mac OS X will ship summer 2006.
