DWE V9.1 features technology from IBM and two of the company's software acquisitions, Rational and Alphablox. The foundation of DWE is the DB2 Universal Database, which is supported by analytics design and development tools including Rational Data Architect and a network of partner offerings. DWE also includes DB2 Alphablox, a tool for developing custom applications with embedded analytics designed to leverage the information warehouse. Alphablox runs on WebSphere Application Server and provides an application framework, a programming model, and development tools for assembling analytic applications. Embedded data mining in DWE uses DB2 Intelligent Miner algorithms to analyze warehouse data 'where it resides' and provides fraud detection, financial forecasts, and insights into customer behavior. DWE V9.1 also features an Eclipse-based Design Studio, a data discovery function that allows customers to profile data, and sample and view table contents, as well as visualize correlated statistics to understand what parts of the warehouse have potential for mining. The Design Studio offers a data flow editor that enables users to visually design data mining flows using advanced modeling, scoring, and visualization software. Later, SQL can be generated and pasted into an Alphablox page, a third party tool, or any customer application to invoke the mining flow for embedded analytics. (www.ibm.com) |
